RUMOURS & NEWS

 Very Busy afternoon.

Where to start?

Technical problems mean that the Merlin was unable to make it over today and as a consequence will not be in Lower Park tomorrow.

The late arrivals of a number of the aircraft meant there was a fair amount of activity on the ramp this afternoon. The static display was popular the afternoon and as you can see from the photo below the south side was relatively full by 1730.

Technical issues led to a delay in the arrival of the GNAT but luckily enough the mechanics sorted the issues and the aircraft made it in ahead of the P38 and the Corsair.

As usual a number of updates have been made to the timetable. Version 3 has now been published and can be downloaded by clicking the link below.

 Restricted Airspace - NO DRONES!

The Director of Civil Aviation has established Restricted Airspace to cover the air display period as follows:

13:45 and 18:00 hours (local time) on Wednesday, September 7th 2016;

and

12:45 and 17:00 hours (local time) on Thursday, September 8th 2016,

The restricted airspace is the airspace from the surface to Flight Level 120 (12,000 ft) within the area bounded by the circumference of a circle having a radius of 6 nautical miles (7 miles) (11.1 km) centred on Display Datum in St. Aubin's Bay.

This effectively covers the whole island and a good distance out to sea and makes it a criminal offence under Article 155 of the Air Navigation (Jersey) Law 2014 to fly any aircraft (INCLUDING DRONES, PARAGLIDERS, HANG GLIDERS, MODEL AIRCRAFT etc..) without the permission of Air Traffic Control.

PLEASE RESPECT THE NEED TO SAFEGUARD OUR AIRSPACE DURING THIS PERIOD OF INCREASED AERIAL ACTIVITY.

For more information on the safe operation of drones in the channel island please visit www.cidronesafety.co.uk

A full copy of the direction can be downloaded below.
Please note that the times indicated in the direction are in UTC and you need to add 1 hr for British Summer Time (local)

 Losses and Gains

Well - Sorry for the delay in posting anything new but the last week or so has been manic.

Many of you will know that the Sea Vixen suffered an asymmetric flap problem a few weeks back and although we were hopeful that this would be repaired prior to the show , upon inspection a decision was made to curtail the remainder of the display season and get an early start on the winter maintenance.

The Lockheed 10 undercarriage issues have proved insurmountable so this will also be unable to attend.

In the meantime Mike had booked and lost a Mig 15, Gyrocopter and a Husky floatplane.

Anyway with aircraft coming a going parking plans have been fluid as has the draft Display Timetable.

So where are we? Well; the good news is we have a show, and more jet aircraft and display teams than we have had in a long time.

The Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron have stepped in to supply a pair or De Havilland Vampires and our good friend Chris Heames will be back, this time in a Folland Gnat T.Mk1

There was still a small gap in the program so the AeroSparx will also be joining the line up once they finish in Guernsey.

I will post the timetable later this evening. This is still likely to change as we continue to factor in the logistics of closing the airspace for the national display teams and the issues of getting aircraft between the islands after the Guernsey show.

As we move into display week our Twitter feed will come alive with the latest news on the latest arrivals.

The 2016 Display Programme should be on sale from most reputable stores in town.

Team Raven step in to fill the gap left by the Alize.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of an available Pilot the Alize will not be able to make the show this year.

Mike has secured Team Raven to fill the gap.

 August Update

Here is the latest news regarding the lineup for this years display.

A Vought Corsair will join the P38 Lightening. (See pic)

Subject to the successful resolution to a slight technical problem we hope to have a Lockheed Model 10 Electra.

The Polish Navy will once again support the airport static with their AN-28 Bryza.

 2016 Preliminary Line-up

Mike has finally given the go ahead to publish this preliminary list.

He is doing his best to source funding for a couple of specials, hence the delay in releasing the list.

With the welcome return of the Patrouille de France parking at the airport may be a little tight.

The cycle track between West Park to Bel Royal will also be closed to cyclists during this time due to the large numbers of pedestrians in the area. Riders can expect to be diverted onto the avenue itself but are asked to slow down and look out for pedestrians.

Motorists are asked not to Park on Westmount Road and around Mont Bingham.

PLEASE NOTE: There may be significant changes to the parking arrangements for this years display. If we are unable to secure sufficient marshals it may not be possible to permit the public to park on the Avenue. Please get in touch if you can offer your help as a Marshal for the day.
